It Was Always You
It Was Always You

People often say that when two people are meant for each other, the universe finds a way to bring them together. Looking back at our story, I believe every word of that.

Before we were “us,” we were just two people talking. I was the one who fell in love first, but I was also the one who was terrified of love. My past had left scars that I wasn’t ready to reopen. I had convinced myself that relationships weren’t meant for me anymore. I kept my heart guarded, afraid that loving someone again would only mean getting hurt again.

But then… you happened.

You didn’t force your way into my life. You patiently stood by me, understood my silence, and slowly became the reason I started believing in love again. You were the one who took the first step. You were the one who held my hand when I was too afraid to move forward. You made me realize that not every love story ends in heartbreak. Some begin with healing.

Being in merchant navy wasn’t easy for us.

While the world saw ships crossing oceans, they never saw the distance we crossed every single day just to stay connected. My ship sailed from one port to another, across different countries, different oceans, and different time zones. Sometimes there was no internet for days. Sometimes a week. Sometimes even longer. There were moments when I couldn’t send a single text, couldn’t hear your voice, couldn’t tell you how much I missed you.

Yet you never complained.

You waited.

You trusted me even when all you had was silence.

Every time I finally got a signal, the first thing I wanted wasn’t social media or the news—it was you. Just hearing your voice made the loneliness of the sea disappear.

Our clocks never matched, but somehow our hearts always did.

I remember setting alarms according to Indian time while I was thousands of miles away. Sleep didn’t matter. Fatigue didn’t matter. If it meant getting a few precious minutes with you, I would happily stay awake. Those late-night conversations became my safe place. No matter where my ship was in the world, talking to you always felt like coming home.

You loved me through unstable networks, missed calls, delayed messages, and endless waiting. You loved me when I couldn’t always be there. You loved me despite the oceans between us.

And that’s something I will never take for granted.

Thank you for choosing me when I wasn’t ready to choose myself.

Thank you for believing in us when distance tested us.

Thank you for waiting at every port, every timezone, every silent day.

You didn’t just become my girlfriend.

You became my peace after the storm, my home in every ocean, and the reason I learned that love isn’t measured by how often two people meet, but by how deeply they stay connected even when the whole world keeps them apart.

If I had to live this life all over again—every rough sea, every sleepless night, every missed call, every mile across the ocean—I would choose it all again.

Because every journey, every wave, and every distance led me to you.

And if there’s one thing the sea has taught me, it’s this:

No matter how far a ship sails, it always knows where home is.

You are my home.

Always have been.
